The francophone platform of the LEAD initiative invites you to participate in the 2nd Electronic Conference beginning October 25th, 2004.

 

Wildlife - Livestock Systems: Cohabitation or Competition…

Where do we stand today? Shall we change the approach?

 

Three themes will be successively introduced and debated (in French) during this conference of 9 weeks.

 

Theme 1 (25/10 - 12/11)

Introduced and moderated by Vincent Castel (LEAD-FAO)

Values and uses of biodiversity resources: where are we? Which perspectives for herders?

 

Theme 2 (15/11 - 3/12)

Introduced and moderated by Alexandre Caron (CIRAD-emvt) Alexandre will try to translate parts of the discussion in to English.

The wildlife/livestock interface: What is the sanitary risk today?  How to manage it?

 

Theme 3 (6/12 - 17/12 and 10/01 - 14/01)

Introduced and moderated by Aurélie Binot (CIRAD-emvt)

Socio-political issues and movements in pastoral systems: How to manage biodiversity resources?

 

The aim of this electronic conference will be to gather the theoretical and practical experiences about conservation and development projects. It will also try to build new approaches to integrate wildlife into livestock production development plans (policies and practises) in arid and semi-arid zones.  At the end of the conference, a synthetic document will be produced.

 

You can decide to join this conference as a reader or a participant. Your contribution can be:

-            theoretical discussions

-     good and bad experiences from the field

-            comparisons/remarks from your own experience

-            documents/links/case studies
